The Newsletter of the Bayou Haystackers Paddling Club - December 2005

Happy New Year everyone!!

This is a very short newsletter. I wanted to get it out before New Year’s day to remind everyone about the New Year’s Day Feast and Paddle.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to paddling with you in 2006.

You'll notice that the event calendar is a little sparse. Don't worry - it should get full soon. As soon as we find out the status of our favorite paddling areas we will schedule some outings. If there is a waterway that you like to paddle and you know that it is navigable now - why not lead a trip?

Aren't sure what you need to do to lead a trip? Contact Robb Wiltze - leadscout@bayouhaystackers.com - and he'll fill you in.

A Few Reminders

New Year's Day Feast and Paddle

Keep up the tradition. Plan now to attend the ninth annual Bayou Haystackers New Years Day feast and paddle. This get-together is still planned for Tickfaw State Park. We are not sure how "canoebale" the river will be but we are hoping for the best. If the water is too low, we may not be able to paddle but we'll still be able to feast.

Please contact me, Pat Fontova (vicepresident@bayouhaystackers.com), if you plan to be there. The feast: corned beef, (with Han's special horse radish sauce) cabbage, black eye peas, and corn bread is completed by pot-luck items brought by all. If you don't know what to bring, just ask me and I'll suggest something or give you a general idea. This is a great way to start the new year and socialize with fellow club members.

January General Membership Meeting

The January General Membership meeting always seems to be a specially good one. This year, in addition to the regular presentation, we will have our election of officers. Usually we elect officers at the November meeting but with everything that was going on then we just couldn't get it together. What's specially good about this proposed roster is that I am running for president - ha - just kidding. I mean I am running for president but that's not what's so great about it. What's great is that we have 2 new members that will be on the board. We've needed some new "blood" and it looks like we finally got it.

Here 's the proposed slate for 2006:

President: Patricia Fontova
VP: Jed Pitre
Secretary: Kim Muller
Treasurer: Hoyt Sayler
Board: Mimi Cleary
  Mimi Clifton
  George Jiha
  Lisa Pitre
  Woody Wood
